Former England captain Michel Vaughan lauds Kohli’s captaincy era after India’s defeat to England in the First Test

Former England captain Michel Vaughan has lauded Kohli’s captaincy era in Test Cricket. “India miss Virat Kohli’s captaincy massively in Test cricket. Under Virat’s captaincy, India wouldn’t have lost First Test. Rohit is a legend and a great player, but I felt he just switched off completely” the Ashes wining captain said in an episode of the show Club Prairie Fire. India lost the first test match against England at Hyderabad by 28 runs after getting a lead of 190 runs due to some poor catching and superb batting by the English batters. This was India’s second defeat in the last three Tests at home. Notably India haven’t won any of there last three matches as the last match against Australia ended in a draw.

The Captaincy Debate

The defeat against England in the First Tet has also raised questions about Rohit’s captaincy, especially in Test matches as it seemed like Rohit was defensive in his approach as a captain and was reluctant to attack while bowling. Following the defeat fans have gone on a nostalgic ride and are talking about how aggressively the Indian team played under Kohli especially from 2018- 2021 a period which saw India win its first Test series in Australia and Test match wins in South Africa and England.

The Questions

Rohit Sharma is under a lot of pressure following the manner in which India lost the match and to add to the misery KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja two key members of the team have been ruled out of the Second Test due to Injury. It would be interesting to see who replaces the duo in the next match

India squad for Second Test vs England

Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Avesh Khan, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Washington Sundar, Sourabh Kumar.
