Ex-Indian Cricketers discuss about the legacy of Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians will be locking horns with the Rajasthan Royals on the 30th April at the Wankhede Stadium. This also happens to be the 1000th match of the IPL. The marquee tournament has given so many countless memories to the fans over the years.

In the evening game on Sunday, April 30, when Mumbai Indians play Rajasthan Royals in the rematch from the IPL 2023, the famous Wankhede Stadium will commemorate two significant events.

The IPL is scheduled to hold its historic 1000th game tonight, and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma will play at his home field on his 36th birthday today, providing fans with a double dose of joy.

Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the history of the IPL. The team has won the trophy for 5 times. However, Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2023 season may not have been particularly remarkable thus far, as the team is now ranked in the bottom half of the points standings, but this group has a proven ability to recover.

Sehwag said

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag argues that despite dropping two straight games, MI is still capable of mounting a comeback and that captain Rohit Sharma, who will play his 150th IPL match, shouldn’t put himself under unnecessary pressure.

Sehwag said, “MI have definitely lost two matches but all is not over for them. Rohit should not come under the pressure of captaincy and play his game freely. This team has the potential to bounce back. It can still qualify for the playoffs.”

Irfan Pathan, a former cricketer for India, believes that Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2023 struggles are the result of their bowlers’ inability to apply consistent pressure to fresh hitters.

“The problem with MI bowlers is that they are allowing the new batters to settle. They have even allowed the uncapped batters to play aggressively. Almost every bowler, except Piyush Chawla, didn’t bowl consistently in the right areas.,” said Pathan.

Virender Sehwag and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh both agreed that the heritage of MI is such that every player wants to be a part of this franchise, and that it will be Rohit’s obligation to bring it back in the IPL in 2023.

“MI has had a different legacy. Every cricketer aspires to be a part of this franchise. Although the situation has changed a bit this year, Rohit has the responsibility to revive this legacy. They have many young and talented players. Now, it is his job to groom these players,” Harbhajan said.
