Experienced Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik, is set to conclude his esteemed cricketing career with notable participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Recent reports suggest that he is contemplating his future in international cricket, indicating a decision may be imminent.
Dinesh Karthik’s IPL Career:
Karthik’s IPL journey began in 2008 with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), making him one of the few to feature in every season since the league’s inception. Alongside cricketing stalwarts like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Wriddhiman Saha, and Manish Pandey, he holds this distinction. Over 16 seasons, Karthik’s remarkable consistency is evident, having missed only two matches during his tenure.
After joining RCB in 2022, Karthik left an immediate impact, scoring 330 runs in 16 matches with an impressive average of 55 and a striking strike rate of 183.33. His contributions were instrumental in RCB’s journey to the playoffs, despite a loss in the second qualifier. However, subsequent seasons saw fluctuations, notably in 2023, where he struggled, managing only 140 runs at an average of just over 11.
This stint with RCB marked his second with the franchise, having previously represented them in 2015. Throughout his IPL career, Karthik has showcased versatility by playing for six teams, including Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and RCB. With an impressive tally of 4516 runs in 240 matches at an average of nearly 26, along with 133 dismissals, including 36 stumpings, Karthik has solidified his status as one of the IPL’s leading figures.
