Dhoni’s Limited Batting Time in IPL Surprises Fans, But Coach Stephen Fleming Reveals Strategic Reason

In the last match of IPL 2024, the cricket world saw a classic clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings. In the 34th match of the tournament, fans enjoyed some intense performances by the bowlers. In that match, Lucknow Super Giants defeated Chennai by 8 wickets. However, questions were raised about promoting Dhoni’s batting order. After losing the game, CSK’s Coach cleared this matter.

Dhoni’s Impactful Cameo and Flemming’s Praise:

After winning the trophy last year, MS Dhoni is making his fans happy by featuring in one more season. Since the beginning of the season, he has been in a good rhythm. Coming to bat in the lower middle order, he is making an impact with those quickfire. Against Mumbai, he was excellent. He scored an unbeaten 20 runs with just 4 deliveries. In that innings, he smashed 3 boundaries with a strike rate of 500.00.

He continued his form even in the last match against Lucknow Super Giants. He played a knock of 28 runs in 9 balls. He smashed 3 boundaries and 2 over-boundaries. That quick-fire knock helped to score some quick runs in the last which helped the team to score 176/6 in 20 overs.

After watching him play the impactful knock, Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming praised the legend. He said, “It’s inspirational, isn’t it? His batting this year even in training has been very crisp. The team isn’t surprised with what he is doing because his skill level during the pre-season was very high. Other years he has obviously had problems with his knee and he is sort of recovering from that which is why there is only a certain amount of balls he can function well.”

Reason Behind His Batting Order:

Dhoni’s popularity in cricket is truly unmatchable. Fans wait to see him play those big shots. But in this season, he has been seen coming to bat at the last and playing not more than 2-3 overs. That is surprising to the fans. They want to see captain cool more. But there is a reason and Fleming revealed that. He said, “I think everyone wants to see him for longer as we do but that amount of time is about right. We need him for the tournament and that 2-3 over cameo he is owning that space. It’s up to the rest of the batting unit to get us to a good position where he can push us over the top. He is doing that pretty much every time at the moment which is great to watch.”

Later he added, “What an amazing atmosphere when he comes out and does play and entertain, it’s exhilarating. We are incredibly proud of what he has achieved. We marvel at the amount of love that he gets. It’s no surprise with what he has done with Indian cricket and with CSK with us. We are incredibly proud that he is a part of our side and is pretty much the heartbeat of the side. We thoroughly enjoy it. We know we are beneficiaries of the career that he has had and is having. We enjoy every minute of it.”
