Dhoni recalled for NZ T20Is, Pandya back in both limited overs sides

The veteran MS Dhoni has been recalled for the T20I series to be played in New Zealand. Earlier, he wasn’t picked in the side for the Windies and Australia T20I series. The Chief Selector MSK Prasad had mentioned that they were looking for a second keeper and thus gave a chance to Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik up front.

It seemed as if Dhoni’s career in the shortest format was over. But now, the 37-year-old is set to make a comeback. Hardik Pandya, who has been out of action for a while since his injury in the Asia Cup 2018, has been named in both ODI and T20I squads.

Another major selection is of Kedar Jadhav who is back for T20Is. On the other hand, Washington Sundar and Shreyas Iyer failed to find a place in the shortest format. Meanwhile, Manish Pandey has been axed from both the limited overs squads.

Rishabh Pant didn’t find a place in the ODI squad. He could accumulate just 41 runs in the ODI series against Windies. However, he remains in the T20I setup. Mohammed Shami comes back for ODIs and Umesh Yadav was overlooked from either squad.

India, after the ongoing Australia tour, will travel to New Zealand. They will take part in 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is. The ODI series will begin on January 23 in Napier while the T2oIs begin on February 6 in Wellington.
