Dhawan’s IPL Milestone in PBKS vs DC Opener

On the second day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan made history during the clash against Delhi Capitals (DC). Dhawan became the first player in IPL history to score 900 boundaries. This remarkable achievement occurred during PBKS’s campaign opener against DC on Saturday. Dhawan’s milestone highlights his exceptional batting prowess and adds to his illustrious career in the IPL.

Dhawan’s Landmark: 900 Boundaries in IPL:

Dhawan’s record-breaking achievement of 900 boundaries in the IPL is a testament to his batting prowess. With 754 fours and 148 sixes, he stands alone as the only player to reach this milestone in the league’s history. Comparatively, Virat Kohli trails behind Dhawan with 878 boundaries, comprising 643 fours and 235 sixes, highlighting Dhawan’s exceptional boundary-hitting ability.

Furthermore, Dhawan ranks as the IPL’s second-highest run-scorer, accumulating 6,639 runs at an impressive average of 35.31 and a strike rate exceeding 127. His tally includes two centuries and 50 half-centuries, a feat achieved by only a select few in IPL history, including Kohli and David Warner.

Despite his remarkable achievements, Dhawan would have been disappointed with his dismissal for 22 runs off 16 deliveries in the Punjab Kings’ match against Delhi Capitals, missing out on the opportunity for a significant contribution to his team’s chase.

Punjab King’s Innings:

Rishabh Pant’s comeback to cricket after a hiatus of 453 days ended in disappointment as his team, Delhi Capitals, suffered a four-wicket loss to Punjab Kings in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Pursuing a target of 175 runs, Punjab Kings reached the target in 19.2 overs.

With the pitch favoring batsmen, Punjab Kings’ opening duo, Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow, set a brisk pace, accumulating 34 runs in the first three overs. However, Delhi Capitals’ Ishant Sharma struck in the fourth over, dismissing Dhawan, while Bairstow fell victim to a run-out in the same over.

Despite these early setbacks, Prabhsimran Singh and Sam Curran stabilized Punjab Kings’ innings with a crucial 42-run partnership for the third wicket. Singh contributed 26 runs off 17 balls before Kuldeep Yadav sent him back, while Jitesh Sharma’s dismissal shortly after brought Delhi Capitals back into contention.

Curran and Liam Livingstone then built a formidable 67-run partnership, effectively sealing the victory for Punjab Kings. Although Khaleel Ahmed created some late drama by dismissing Curran and Shashank Singh in consecutive deliveries, Delhi’s fielding lapses prevented them from turning the tide.

Curran, Punjab’s top performer with the bat, scored an impressive 63 runs off 47 deliveries, registering his highest IPL score. Meanwhile, Livingstone played a supporting role with an unbeaten 38 off 21 balls, guiding Punjab Kings to a convincing win.
