Deandra Dottin accuses the Gujarat Giants of Conspiring gainst her

Deandra Dottin, who was said to have missed the Women’s Premier League on account of “no medical clearance”, has accused the Gujarat Giants team management of knowingly planning her absence from the tournament. In a shocking turn of events, Dotting shared an Instagram post, explaining how the events transpired against her.

Dottin expresses her disappointment

Dotting started her Instagram post by expressing her disappointment towards the Gujarat Giants franchise’s team management and the way they handled her case. The franchise had initially stated that Dottin was set to miss the WPL on account of medical reasons whereas they retracted that statement the very next day and replaced it with “unable to present medical clearance”.

On that note, Dottin wrote, “I remain deeply disappointed by what can only, plausibly, be described as bewildering reasoning for my omission from the tournament. As was widely publicised, I was bought at the WPL auction by the Gujarat Giants, a franchise owned and operated by the Adani Group.”

She further wrote that she had her medical clearance ready, and was not allowed to participate in the tournament despite that. “At the commencement of the tournament, the franchise claimed that I was excluded from the team because I was apparently “recovering from the situation”. This was followed by a subsequent, clarifying statement that I was infact “unable to obtain medical clearance” despite being granted as recently as February 20th.”, Dottin added.

Dottin was injured but had recovered

Dottin revealed that she had minor abdominal pain and swelling in December but she underwent surgery for the same and after much rest, was cleared to play from February 14th. However, when she recommenced her training, she had some soreness, which was rather anticipated as she was out of training for a couple of months.

When she conveyed the same to the Gujarat Giants’ physiotherapist, it was misconstrued as her experiencing the same medical ailings once again. The franchise advised Dottin to get herself reassessed locally in Canada and present a fresh medical clearance certificate. On the other hand, Dottin had gotten herself reassessed prior to this and had a medical clearance certificate dated 20th February.

Dottin explained what happened following this. She wrote, “To my shock, I was then forwarded email correspondence from the Glants’ physiotherapist, that included the following demand “Deandra Dottin is strictly advised to submit her fitness report along with the recent scan by 26/02/2023. She will be deemed unfit for T20 matches in the WPL If she doesn’t comply.” This request was sent on Saturday 25th February with the deadline provided being the following day-Sunday-making it near impossible to administer all stipulated medical tests, particularly over a weekend.”

Dottin further wrote, “On Sunday, 26th February, I received another emall from a senior manager at Adani Sportsline (the sports arm of Adani Group) which stated that I was considered an integral part of the team and that I “hold a solid role to play, however, they would require me to produce the new scan and reports by March 1st. Whilst I was trying my utmost to arrange an expedited CT scan in accordance with the various deadlines I was being served, I received yet another emall the following day (Monday, 27th February), this time from the Head of Adani Sportsline, stating that they were unable to find me a timely appointment at a private hospital from their end and that they would, thus, formally be seeking to replace me In the League.”

Others treated differently

As per Dottin, it was only she who was asked to present medical clearance. No other players were asked to do so. However, despite her providing medical clearance, she was constantly urged by the franchise to present a new one over and over again.

Dottin signed off by writing, “At the very least, I hope the above account of events that transpired – those which are also backed by documented correspondence-shall put to rest ongoing speculation and offer my fans, the media and stakeholders an accurate personal insight into my unfortunate exclusion from the maiden Women’s Premier League.”
