Cricket Ireland Announces High Performance Improvements Plans

Cricket Ireland has unveiled a new structure for its High Performance and Cricket Operations functions, aiming to better support its growth as a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). This follows various reviews, including the 2022 Portas Report and an internal review by former Chair Ross McCollum in 2023.

Key Changes:

  • Director of High Performance: Focuses on performance and technical aspects, overseeing men’s and women’s pathway cricket programs, and guiding elite coach education.
  • Director of Cricket: Manages international playing programs, cricket scheduling, domestic professional cricket, and player contracts.

Cricket Ireland CEO, Warren Deutrom, highlighted the need for a fit-for-purpose model to reflect their Full Member status. The restructuring will address the increased workload and responsibilities resulting from their expanded activities.

Richard Holdsworth, who has been integral to Irish cricket’s growth over the past 13 years, will assume the new Director of Cricket role. The search for a new Director of High Performance is underway, with the aim to fill the position by the end of the year.

Richard Holdsworth’s Remarks:

“The last 13 years have been a privilege. As we entered Full Membership, the demands of the role have grown exponentially. I look forward to focusing on the Director of Cricket role and making substantive improvements across the sport.”
