“Couldn’t Capitalise On The Start, Were 10-15 Runs Short” Ruturaj On CSK Losing Against LSG

Being the first team to bat, Chennai Super Kings scored 176/6 In 20 overs. However, their opponents, the Lucknow Super Gaints almost effortlessly chased the goal, hence winning the match by 8 wickets, at 180/2.

It seemed to be easier for LSG to be batting second, but that wasn’t the only cause for their win. While Players like Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul showed their amazing skills throughout the game, the Fielding and Bowling for CSK could definitely use some work.

The commentators noted that the Chennai team didn’t use Ali enough and that led to a lot of pressure being put on Ravindra Jadeja as the bowler. Of course, all these people were having a hard time because KL was batting “like a dream”.

“Couldn’t have asked more with the situation we were in” -Gaikwad

MS Dhoni holds up his name of being one of the best finishers in the game. Talking about the match in the post-game ceremony, CSK’s new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was quoted saying, “We finished well with the bat, couldn’t have asked more with the situation we were in. After powerplay we couldn’t capitalise on the start we got and we kept losing wickets at regular intervals.”

Discussing what could’ve gone better in the match, the new wicketkeeper-captain said,  “I would say we were 10-15 runs short. Slightly difficult with such a total, with the impact sub rule you need 10-15 or even 20 runs extra. Pitches like these seem sluggish to start off with but with dew coming on it gets better, 190 would have been a good score.”.

Need to work on taking wickets in power play

Ruturaj stressed on the team’s need to focus on taking wickets in the powerplay and capitalising on any early starts. He further talked about working harder to win against LSG at their next game, scheduled to be held in chepauk.

“One area we would like to improve in taking wickets in the powerplay. That will put pressure on the opposition. We need to work on it. Good to play them again (next game at Chepauk). We will come up with good homework done now that we have three home games.”
