Contrary to these reports, Aligarh Police’s Superintendent (SP City) Mrigank Shekhar Pathak stated in a video message that no FIR had been lodged, and no cognisance had been taken in this matter.
Media outlet The Quint reached out to the complainant, Pandit Keshav, who confirmed filing a complaint but not an FIR. Keshav expressed his belief that Marsh’s act disrespected the nation’s religious and cultural sentiments. He claimed to await police proceedings but asserted his intention to move to court if needed. Keshav sent letters to the prime minister and the Sports Ministry, urging a lifetime ban for Marsh or, at the very least, a denial of an Indian visa.

The Quint accessed a copy of Keshav’s complaint in Hindi, which inaccurately identifies Marsh as the team’s captain. The complainant reiterated that he would wait for the police to take action but stood firm on his demand for significant consequences for the Australian cricketer.
