The stage is set for the second season of the American Premier League (APL), scheduled to be held at Moosa Cricket Stadium in Houston, Texas from December 19 to 31. Chris Gayle, popularly known as the Universe Boss, has been unveiled as the captain for the Premium Windies team, leading the charge in this thrilling cricket extravaganza.
Alongside Chris Gayle, other prominent players taking up captaincy roles include S Sreesanth for Premium Indians, Sohail Tanvir for Premium Paks, Mohammad Nabi, the current captain of the Afghanistan team, leading the Premium Afghans, and Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting captaining the Premium Aussies.
Dan Lawrence, the emerging star from England, is appointed as the captain for the Premium Americans, who will face off against the Premium Windies in the opening game of the season. Adding a touch of diversity, Punjab-born Canadian Navneet Dhaliwal, recently in the spotlight for leading Canada in the ICC WT20 qualifiers, will captain the Premium Canadians.
Chris Gayle expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming league, stating, “I am excited to wear the captaincy band of a Windies team again. Playing in America is like playing at home. Cricket as a sport had to find a place in the USA someday, and this is the best time to have a league like this.”
