Chepauk To Host Women’s Cricket First Time In 48 Years

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule for India’s tour of South Africa in June and July. The tour includes a one-off test match, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

The test match will be played between India and South African women’s cricket teams at Chepauk Stadium. This ground will be hosting a women’s test match after almost 5 decades.

India To Host South African Women’s Team 

India is going to host the South African women’s cricket team in June-July. This tour will start from June 13, which will continue till July 9. Meanwhile, the Indian team is also going to play a test match, which will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 

There will be only one test match between the two teams, which will start on June 28. The Indian women’s team last played a Test match in December 2023, in which the Indian team won by 8 wickets.

 Before the start of the tour, South Africa will face the Board President’s XI team in a warm-up match on 13 June. The Board President’s XI is a team composed of players who have excelled in domestic cricket.

BCCI has shared the schedule for the South African women’s team tour of India. 

  • June 13: Warm-up – South Africa vs Board President’s XI (Bengaluru)
  • June 16: 1st ODI (Bengaluru)
  • June 19: 2nd ODI (Bengaluru)
  • June 23: 3rd ODI (Bengaluru)
  • June 28-July 1: Test (Chennai)
  • July 5: 1st T20I (Chennai)
  • July 7: 2nd T20I (Chennai)
  • July 9: 3rd T20I (Chennai)

The ODI series will be hosted in Bengaluru, with matches scheduled for June 16, 19 and 23. Chepauk will host the test match from June 28 to July 1, followed by the three-match T20I series from July 5 to 9.
