Captains meet in Mumbai ahead of the inaugural WPL match

The Tata WPL is less than 24 hours away and the excitement for the tournament in the fans is already on a high. Before the inaugural match between the Giants and the Indians tomorrow, the captains of all 5 franchises got together today.

In a presentation ceremony organized by the WPL team, the 5 captains came together to take some notes and share a laugh. The official handle of the Women’s Premier League posted a video of the captains gathered in Mumbai. However, Beth Mooney was missing from the video and fans have been speculating if the Gujarat Giants skipper is keeping in good health or not.

The WPL opening ceremony will be conducted tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. before the game starts. Kirti Sanon, AP Dhillon, and Kiara Advani will take on the stage in what is expected to be an extravagant opening ceremony. Fans can watch the action across the Sports 18 Network or for free on the Jio Cinema app.

The season will feature 22 games, with each of the 5 franchises playing each other twice in the tournament. Thus, each franchise will get to play at least 8 games before we’ll move on to the knockout stage of the tournament. The team that finishes at the top of the table will get a direct entry into the final whereas the teams finishing second and third will fight each other in the Eliminator to secure a place in the finals. The Eliminator will take place on March 24 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai, while the final will be held on March 26 at the iconic Brabourne Stadium, also in Mumbai.

Some matches will also be played in the afternoon. The afternoon matches will begin at 3:30 p.m. whereas the evening matches will begin from 6:30 p.m. (All times are IST).
