Canada Unveils Experienced Squad for Debut T20 World Cup Appearance, Saad Bin Zafar to Lead

It is less than a month left for the T20 World Cup. Teams are doing the last-minute preparations. As the tournament approaches, the cricket boards are announcing their squad for the upcoming global tournament. Recently, Canada who is going to make their first appearance in the T20 World Cup, announced their squad. There is an exciting mix of experience and some fresh talent. 

Canada’s Debut T20 World Cup:

After 2022, cricket enthusiasts will experience another T20 World Cup after two years. The West Indies and the USA are hosting the global event jointly. Matches will be played in both countries. Guyana and Barbados will host the semifinal and final stage. Among all the experienced teams, Canada will make their T20 World Cup debut this time. Before that, they have announced their squad. 

Saad Bin Zafar is set to lead Canada in their debut at the Men’s T20 World Cup, with a squad boasting considerable experience. The talented left-arm orthodox spinner brings a wealth of skills to the team, alongside top-order batter Aaron Johnson and left-arm seamer Kaleem Sana, who are also anticipated to play crucial roles. Notably, the side comprises mostly seasoned players, with only four individuals below the age of 30, promising a blend of expertise and youthfulness.

Harsh Thaker, Nicholas Kirton, and Dilpreet Bajwa bring youthful energy to the squad. Although the team boasts depth, there were significant omissions, as Nikhil Dutta and Srimantha Wijeyeratne missed out on places in the final 15. Tajinder Singh has been designated as the reserve player, offering support throughout the tournament.

Canada’s T20 World Cup Squad:

As the country is going to play their inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup, they have announced their 15-member squad ahead of the tournament. Canada’s squad is featuring Saad Bin Zafar (c), Aaron Johnson, Dilon Heyliger, Dilpreet Bajwa, Harsh Thaker, Jeremy Gordon, Junaid Siddiqui, Kaleem Sana, Kanwarpal Tathgur, Navneet Dhaliwal, Nicholas Kirton, Pargat Singh, Ravinderpal Singh, Rayyankhan Pathan, Shreyas Movva. 

Reserve Players: Tajinder Singh, Aaditya Varadharajan, Ammar Khalid, Jatinder Matharu, Parveen Kumar.

Canada is placed in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, Ireland, and the U.S.A. The tournament opener sees Canada face neighboring rivals, the USA in Dallas on June 1st. They will face Ireland on June 7th. June 11th will see a clash between Canada and Pakistan. On 15th June, they will face India in the group stage.
