Brett Lee showers praise on Virat Kohli; calls him the greatest ODI batsman

In the aftermath of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, cricket legend Brett Lee expressed his belief that Virat Kohli is the best batter One Day International (ODI) cricket has ever witnessed. Lee emphasized, “He’s got the most centuries, so you’d have to go on statistics, yes.” Kohli’s exceptional performance in the tournament solidified this claim, amassing a staggering 765 runs in 11 matches with an impressive average of 95.62.

Lee acknowledged Kohli’s impressive mindset, describing him as a terrific person with the right balance of confidence without arrogance. He stated, “I’ve always been a massive Sachin Tendulkar fan, I’ve loved his company and enjoyed the way he played.” Kohli’s campaign featured three centuries and six half-centuries, including a crucial half-century in the final game. This outstanding performance allowed him to surpass the previous record for the highest run total in a single World Cup edition, previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar since the 2003 World Cup.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, Brett Lee commended Kohli’s inner determination and humility, both on and off the field. Lee stated, “But for Virat Kohli and for him to say those beautiful words after he equalled his record and then went past him, he just said ‘I’m just trying to emulate my hero.’” This, according to Lee, reflects Kohli’s mindset and his ability to stay humble despite his achievements.

Lee concluded by affirming Kohli’s place as the greatest ODI batsman, stating, “That’s his mindset, he’s got that inner determination, he’s got that way to be humble enough without being cocky. Because he’s got the presence on the cricket field, but when you know him off the field and I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with him, he’s a terrific guy. But he’s got that inner belief and he’d have to go down as the greatest ODI batsmen, stats prove it.”
