BCCI’s Support Plan for Nepal Cricket: Infrastructure Access, Training in India, and Practice Matches Ahead of T20 WC

While cricket enthusiasts are busy in the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England, BCCI has made an amazing decision. In the cricket world, Indian cricket is a big name. A few times ago, Nepal Cricket asked for help from BCCI. On February 2, the President of the Cricket Association of Nepal met the BCCI Secretary regarding this matter. As per the reports, BCCI is likely to help Nepal Cricket.

Cricket Association of Nepal President Met Jay Shah:

For nearly a decade, the BCCI has been a strong supporter of Afghanistan cricket. Now, they plan to offer infrastructure and exposure support to talented players in Nepal. This initiative aims to strengthen the cricketing environment in the South Asian region.

Chatur Bahadur, President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), had a meeting with BCCI secretary Jay Shah during a WPL meeting in the nation’s capital. During the discussion, he requested Shah’s assistance in helping Nepal’s young players access quality game time and better infrastructure, which can be challenging to obtain in Nepal.

If everything goes as planned, there’s a good chance that Nepal’s senior national team could practice in Delhi and participate in some warm-up matches before heading to the United States for the T20 World Cup in June. The BCCI is considering assistance for Nepal cricket, including arranging practice matches between Nepal A and Nepal U-19 teams against state teams.

Nepal’s Need and Craze:

Chatur Bahadur, President of CAN, met BCCI Secretary Jay Shah during an ACC meeting and invited him to New Delhi for discussions. Following this, they had a meeting where Shah asked Bahadur to draft a formal proposal outlining the assistance needed from BCCI. Shah has shown strong support for promoting cricket in Nepal, according to a source from CAN.

Recognizing that Nepal cricket requires assistance in three key areas, the senior national team needs a consistent training camp before the T20 World Cup. Conducting it in Kathmandu poses challenges, primarily due to various factors, with weather being a significant concern.

The enthusiasm for cricket in Nepal is remarkable, and whenever the national team plays, the stadiums are filled to the brim. Similar to the war-affected Afghanistan teams, both national and U-19, training in Greater Noida, the BCCI plans to assist in the development of Nepal cricket in the upcoming years. This collaboration is expected to strengthen friendly relations between the two neighboring countries.
