The BCCI has unveiled the schedule for the Indian domestic cricket season 2024-25, with the Duleep Trophy set to kick off proceedings on September 5 in Anantapur. Notably, the Ranji Trophy has been split into two phases, with a designated window for white-ball tournaments. Additionally, the Ranji Trophy is slated to commence in October this season.

The season is poised to begin with red-ball cricket, headlined by the prestigious Duleep Trophy. Four teams, selected by the Senior Men’s Selection Committee, will vie for glory in the Duleep Trophy, commencing from September 5 in Anantapur. Following this, the Irani Cup and the Ranji Trophy will follow suit, featuring the initial five league matches.

In a statement, BCCI said, “The Domestic Home Season 2024-25 has been meticulously planned, taking into account multiple factors to fortify the core of domestic cricket while prioritising player well-being.”

New Rules for in CK Nayudu Trophy:

The CK Nayudu Trophy has revamped its points system to promote balanced performances. This involves awarding points for batting and bowling excellence in the first innings, as well as for securing the first innings lead or achieving an outright victory. Post-season, a comprehensive assessment will gauge the effectiveness of this new system, potentially leading to its adoption in the Ranji Trophy in future seasons.

In a bold move, the toss has been eliminated for CK Nayudu Trophy matches. Instead, the visiting team will have the opportunity to decide whether they prefer to bat or bowl first. This change grants visiting teams the privilege of choosing their preferred strategy, marking a departure from the conventional practice and introducing a fresh dynamic to the game.

Challengers Trophy Returns:

The Challenger Trophy is a noteworthy addition to women’s cricket, with teams selected directly by selectors. Previously played in the ODI format in 2021-22 and in the T20 format in 2022-23, this tournament transitioned to a zonal format in 2023-24 and is now rebranded as the Challenger Trophy.
