BCCI announces India’s squad for the WTC final, Rahane and Rahul recalled

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member squad for the World Test Championship final, which is scheduled to be held at The Oval from June 7 to June 11. The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, will take on Australia in what promises to be an enthralling clash.

The squad features some of the most talented and experienced players in the Indian cricket team. The batting lineup comprises of the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and KL Rahul.

The return of Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane has returned to the national side after a gap of 15 months. The last time he played for India was during the Test series against South Africa in January 2022. His impressive form for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is believed to be the biggest reason behind his comeback, despite the difference in format.

Another notable inclusion in the squad is KL Rahul, who was dropped from the team for the final two tests against Australia due to poor performance. KS Bharat has also retained his place in the squad, as Rishabh Pant is still recovering from his injuries.

Iyer and Pant left out

Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant have been left out of the squad for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand due to their respective injuries. Iyer recently underwent a back surgery and is expected to be out of action for an extended period of time. Meanwhile, Pant has started his slow recovery process after suffering a car accident in December last year. Jasprit Bumrah is also recovering after his surgery, causing him to miss out on the WTC final.

India’s World Test Championship Final 2023 Squad:

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat.
