Bangladesh Refuse PCB’s Offer of Pink-Ball Test in April

Bangladesh national cricket team is not keen to play any pink-ball Test in Pakistan. On Tuesday the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the news saying the team management is not ready to play day-night Test for the lack of preparation presently.

No pink-ball Test in Pakistan

The Pakistan Cricket Board had requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to play the second Test match of the ongoing series in Pakistan under the lights. Bangladesh earlier had lost the three-match T20I series against them and also the opening Test match in Rawalpindi on Monday. They would return to Pakistan to play the one-off ODI scheduled to be played in Karachi on April 3 and the final Test of the series beginning from April 5.

The BCB on Monday informed that the team is not ready for a pink-ball Test in Pakistan. The BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury revealed that with minimal preparation the team does not want to take up the challenge and so there will not be any Test under the lights between Bangladesh and Pakistan in this ongoing series.

In an interaction with Cricbuzz on Tuesday, he explained, “We have spoken with our team management and they are not ready to play day-night Test at the moment due to lack of preparation. BCB also understands their point of view and taking everything into consideration we have decided not to play a day-night Test match in Pakistan.”

Bangladesh in three-phase tour to Pakistan

Bangladesh national cricket team have only played one pink-ball Test in their history where India thrashed them at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in November 2019. Initially, Bangladesh had not shown much interest to play in Pakistan stating security reasons. But then after much negotiations, Bangladesh had decided to send the team but not for a longer period. So, both boards had planned accordingly to finalize a three-phase tour for Bangladesh in Pakistan.

This is Bangladesh’s first tour to Pakistan in 12 years. They last played a five-match one-day series and an Asia Cup in Pakistan in the year 2008.
