Since his cricket board refused to give him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in the prestigious T20 tournament that kicks off on March 31, prolific England batter Jonny Bairstow will miss the whole IPL this year. The leg injury that Jonny Bairstow, suffered in September of last year is now healing but will need rehab to get ready for the Ashes.
However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) granted all-rounder Liam Livingstone permission to participate in the IPL after he recovered from knee and ankle ailments.
Reports said
”Punjab Kings have some bittersweet news as England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has cleared Liam Livingstone for participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) but has stopped Jonny Bairstow from taking part,” a report in cricbuzz said on Thursday.
”…given the long injury lay-off, the ECB has decided not to issue him (Bairstow) the NOC for the season, which kicks off on March 31.”
After suffering several fractures as a result of a strange slide on the golf course in September 2022, Bairstow was unable to participate in England’s T20 World Cup winning campaign as well as the Test trips to Pakistan and New Zealand.
According to the source, Bairstow, who had surgery for a broken leg and a dislocated ankle in October of last year, will be back in action in a few weeks.
Livingstone aged 29, also experienced a stop-start season in 2022 as a result of an ankle injury sustained while competing in the Hundred events in the UK. Because of injury, he hasn’t played since the Rawalpindi Test in December. He recently participated in off-season training in Dubai with the Lancashire County Cricket Club. Sam Curran, the most expensive purchase at the IPL auction earlier this year, is reportedly going to be available for Punjab Kings, who shelled out Rs 18.50 crore for the fast bowling all-arounder
