Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan unsold in the Hundred

In a surprising turn of events, some of the biggest names in cricket, including Babar Azam, David Warner, and Harmanpreet Kaur, went unpicked during The Hundred Draft held on March 20. The draft saw most teams focusing on acquiring West Indian stars, with Nicholas Pooran being the first pick, selected by the Northern Superchargers.

London Spirit picked up Andre Russell and Shimron Hetmyer, while Rovman Powell and Kieron Pollard were selected by Trent Rockets and Southern Brave, respectively. Interestingly, all these players were bought for 125,000 pounds.

Some notable international and English stars also went undrafted in the first round. Jason Roy, who recently withdrew from IPL 2024, Mark Wood, Tim David, and David Warner were among the big names that didn’t find any takers. From the Indian contingent, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma failed to attract any bids. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan also went unpicked, while Naseem Shah was a first-round pick for Birmingham Phoenix.

On the other hand, Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh were picked up in the draft by Southern Brave and Birmingham Phoenix, respectively.

The teams participating in The Hundred can add two more domestic players as wildcard entries. The latest season of The Hundred is set to begin on July 23.
