Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Ricky Ponting, Head Coach of the Delhi Capitals, confirmed Axar Patel’s leadership role. “Axar has been the Vice-Captain for the last two seasons,” Ponting said. “He’s a very experienced IPL and international player with a good understanding of the game. He’s excited about leading the team.”
Highlighting the team’s preparations, Ponting elaborated, “We discussed this possibility a few days ago, and Axar has had time to adjust. He’ll be strategizing with the bowlers today and finalize plans with the entire team this evening.”
Both Teams in Good Form
The Delhi Capitals currently sit at fifth place in the points table with 12 points from 12 matches. They’ll be facing an in-form RCB side riding a four-match winning streak.
“Every IPL match is a tough battle,” Ponting acknowledged. “RCB wasn’t performing at their best a couple of weeks back, but they’ve been playing some of the best cricket in the tournament lately. However, we’re also on a strong run, winning five of our last seven matches with some big scores.”
Expressing confidence in his team’s capabilities, Ponting asserted, “We’re not making excuses for Pant’s absence. If we play to our potential, we’ll be a very tough team to beat.”
David Warner’s Availability Uncertain
Adding to the pre-match uncertainty, David Warner’s fitness remains unclear. “Warner missed the last game due to a hand injury,” Ponting informed. “He trained intensely yesterday and will be practising batting today. Hopefully, he will be available for selection tomorrow.”
