Aussie Legend Travis Head Becomes The ICC Player Of The Month After a Tremendous World Cup Campaign

The International Cricket Council has finally announced its Player of the Month, from the three nominees it listed earlier. Among Mohammad Shami, Glenn Maxwell and Travis Head, ICC announced batting legend Travis Head as the Player of the Month after contributing enormously to Australia’s World Cup winning campaign. The other two nominees had a wonderful campaign too, with Mohammad Shami ending up as the leading wicket taker and Glenn Maxwell hitting an unbelievable double century when his teams were 7 wickets down in 52 runs. Despite these landmark achievements, Head became the first choice of the Council.

It’s a great honour: Travis Head

On receiving the prestigious award for the first time in his cricketing career, Travis Head remarked that he is thankful to everyone and that it is certainly a team effort. Head stated “It’s a great honour to be recognised with this award, but it is a team effort. Without my team-mates across all formats this wouldn’t have happened; so these types of awards are as much for them as they are for me.”

“I was fortunate that they kept the faith in me for the World Cup after breaking my hand, so it was a great opportunity for me to pay them back. I felt the World Cup was amongst the best I have ever batted, so maybe having a rest before every campaign is the key”, he added further.

Head’s powerful impacts

November was undoubtedly Travis Head’s month to win the award as the all-rounder in the semi-final stage against South Africa derailed South African batsmen, picking up the wickets of Heinrich Klassen and Marco Jansen. On the big day, in the finals against India, Travis Head’s century was what got the Aussies towards its sixth coveted trophy of the 2023 World Cup. An exhibit of performance got him close to the prestigious award.
