As IPL 2023 comes to an end, BCCI will plant more than a lakh trees because of its green initiative

In a remarkable display of environmental commitment, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Tata Group had earlier come together to undertake an ambitious green initiative during the IPL 2023 playoffs. For every dot ball bowled in Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final, the partnership had vowed to plant 500 trees across India.

278 dot balls bowled, how many trees will be planted?

The thrilling IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 witnessed the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) securing their spot in the final against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As a result of 84 dot balls bowled during the match, an astounding 42,000 tree saplings were pledged to be planted.

The stakes grew higher in the Eliminator, where the Mumbai Indians triumphed over the Lucknow Super Giants at the same venue. A total of 96 dot balls were recorded during this intense clash, leading to the commitment to planting 48,000 trees. Qualifier 2 took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where GT defeated the Mumbai Indians in a fierce battle. With 53 dot balls dotting the match, a significant number of 26,500 tree saplings will be planted as a result of this encounter.

Finally, the IPL 2023 Final at the same venue witnessed a thrilling contest between CSK and GT, with CSK emerging as the champions, clinching their fifth IPL title. The match featured 45 dot balls, indicating that 22,500 trees would be planted to commemorate this momentous occasion.

Altogether, a grand total of 278 dot balls were bowled during the IPL 2023 playoffs—Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Finals—resulting in an astounding commitment of planting 1,39,000 trees as part of the BCCI and Tata Group’s India Green initiative.
