Anushka Sharma, Bollywood actress and wife of cricketer Virat Kohli, was spotted celebrating with an unmissable ‘Thank God’ gesture as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured their fifth consecutive victory in the IPL 2024 season, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The match, held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, saw RCB triumph over a Rishabh Pant-less Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs.
RCB’s journey in the IPL 2024 season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Initially struggling and at the bottom of the points table after winning just one of their first seven matches, the team staged a remarkable turnaround in the latter half of the season. This winning streak has not only brought them to the fifth position in the points table but has also placed their fate back in their own hands.
In the match against DC, Rajat Patidar’s quickfire 52 and Will Jacks’ 41 laid the foundation for RCB’s total of 187/9. Despite early dismissals of key players like Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, RCB posted a competitive total. In response, DC faltered early, losing four wickets in the first four overs. Although stand-in skipper Axar Patel fought back with a valiant 57, DC fell short, bowled out for 141.
As the final wicket fell, sealing RCB’s victory, Anushka Sharma, who had been cheering from the stands throughout the game, expressed her joy with a ‘Thank God’ gesture, reflecting the relief and happiness of RCB’s fans and supporters. This win marks RCB’s joint second-best winning streak in an IPL season, with previous similar runs in 2009 and 2016, both seasons in which they reached the final. Their best winning streak remains seven consecutive wins in the 2011 season, leading them to the final.
With one match remaining against defending champions Chennai Super Kings, RCB has a chance to secure their spot in the playoffs, a feat that seemed improbable just a month ago. A win, coupled with a certain margin to avoid a net-run-rate battle, could see them through to the next round after missing out in the 2023 season.
