While several names, including Gautam Gambhir, have been linked to the prestigious position, Flower has definitively ruled himself out. Currently the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Flower expressed his satisfaction with his current role in franchise cricket.

“I haven’t applied and I won’t be applying,” Flower stated clearly. “I am happy with my involvement in the franchise league at the moment. I am really enjoying it. It’s fascinating stuff and I have worked with some amazing organizations and I am happy with that at the moment,” he elaborated.

BCCI Weighs Options with Application Deadline Looming

With the application deadline set for May 27th, the BCCI is meticulously evaluating potential candidates who can effectively lead the Indian cricket team. VVS Laxman, another highly regarded option, has also reportedly shown no interest in the position. This has opened the door for the BCCI to consider overseas coaches alongside strong contenders within India, like Gambhir.

Flower boasts a commendable record in international cricket. Under his guidance, England secured three consecutive Ashes series victories between 2009 and 2013. He was also instrumental in propelling the England Test team to the No.1 ranking in the ICC rankings in 2011. Flower’s extensive experience extends to coaching various franchises across international leagues. However, for the foreseeable future, his focus remains firmly set on the world of franchise cricket.

The BCCI’s search for India’s next head coach continues with Flower’s withdrawal. With the application deadline approaching, all eyes are on the board to see who emerges as the frontrunner to lead the Men in Blue in the coming years.
