As Andre Russell celebrates his birthday today, the young superstar Shubman Gill shared his experience of watching him on the field. Both shared KKR dressing room together and hence Gill closely watched his batting from the non-striker’s end.
On Russell and KKR
The upcoming Team India batsman Shubman Gill in a Question and Answer session on Twitter said that watching Russell batting is like watching a match highlight. The Punjab based batsman got chance to bat along with Andre Russell for the Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League. When Gill was asked to share his experience of batting with Russell on the Twitter session, he commented on the hard-hitting all-rounder.
Shubman Gill was picked up by KKR in 2018 and since then has been one of their mainstays in the batting order. His Under-19 teammates Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti are his best friends at the KKR dressing room.
Gill was asked to share his opinion on the captaincy of Dinesh Karthik. The KKR captain was criticised by fans a lot but Gill has a different opinion about his skipper. Gill also praised the KKR owner a lot as Shahrukh Khan always supports the team irrespective of results. “DK (Dinesh Karthik) is a really good leader. SRK always supports us no matter if we win or lose. He doesn’t talk much about the match.”
On Sachin and more
In another question a fan asked him to choose a retired batsman with whom Gill would like to share a partnership, he took no time to say, “The one and only, Sachin Tendulkar.” The 20-year-old also named Ricky Ponting as his most admired foreign player.
Shubman Gill also talked about a funny incident and explained how once Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya pranked him. “I went to have sushi for the first time with Pant, Kishan and Krunal. They convinced me that wasabi was a great dessert and I believed them.”
