The World Cup 2023 entered the semifinal stage. In the first semifinal, India and New Zealand are locking horns at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The second semifinal is scheduled for November 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata between Australia and South Africa. After those two clashes, two finalists will be featuring in the showdown on November 19. Six teams bid final goodbye to the tournament after playing the group stage. Afghanistan was one of them. After completing the group stage, they felicitated their mentor Ajay Jadeja.
Afghanistan’s Performance in the Tournament:
Afghanistan is a new member of the World Cup. They first entered the tournament in 2015. It was their third appearance in the World Cup. Afghanistan faced some disappointments in the beginning. They lost the first few matches. India beat them by 8 wickets. After that, they found their desired success. Against England, they registered a win of 69 runs. That was their first win of the tournament.
They registered a historical win against Pakistan. That was their first win against Pakistan. Afghanistan hammered Pakistan with 8 wickets. Afghanistan had a heartbreaking moment in the match against Australia. Ibrahim Zadran played an unbeaten knock of 129 runs in 143 balls with 8 boundaries and 3 over-boundaries. They showed great character against the Aussies. They ended the tournament with a 5-wicket win against South Africa.
A Felicitation to Ajay Jadeja:
Afghanistan cricket has played a masterstroke just before the World Cup. They appointed Ajay Jadeja as their mentor in the World Cup. His guidance changed their team’s performance. Ajay Jadeja is a talented former player of India. He has years of experience playing in India and has a good India of Indian pitch and condition. Afghanistan used this and benefited in the tournament.
After completing the journey in the group stage, the Afghanistan board felicitated their mentor. They shared that moment on social media. They posted a picture of the felicitation and wrote, “ The ACB expresses its sincere gratitude to MR. Ajay Jadeja, AfghanAtalan’s mentor, for his pivotal efforts that significantly contributed to Afghanistan’s success at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.”
