ACB changes their stand on Mujeeb, Farooqi, and Naveen-ul-Haq

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has revised its stance on Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, and Naveen Ul Haq, allowing them to receive central contracts and participate in franchise leagues, provided they demonstrate full commitment to national duties and the board’s interests.

Mujeeb, Farooqi, and Naveen had initially declined to sign the central contract for 2024. In response, the ACB had postponed the announcement of national contracts and withheld No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for two years.

Recent Developments:

Mujeeb missed the T20I series against the UAE due to his participation in the Big Bash League (BBL). Although his NOC was initially revoked by the ACB, he later rejoined the Afghanistan squad for the T20I series against India.

Farooqi and Naveen, after discussions with the board, returned to the national team fold. The players expressed an “unconditional approach” to the board, indicating their willingness to represent Afghanistan again.

Revised Conditions:

Following a thorough investigation, a committee recommended revised measures, including a written final warning, salary deductions, limited NOCs prioritizing national duty, and close monitoring of their performance and discipline.

ACB’s Statements:

ACB chairman Mirwais Ashraf acknowledged the players’ past contributions but emphasized the need to avoid future disruptions. He stated, “The players have undoubtedly contributed to the team’s success and have represented the nation to the best of their values. We hope that they avoid making similar inconveniences in the future as we expect them to represent the country in the best of manners.”

He also stressed the importance of adherence to regulations, stating, “The ACB and the rules are above all of us, and it’s important to adhere to the regulations because there are no exceptions for anyone in this regard. However, such cases of a similar nature would be dealt with more strictly as we prioritize the prestige of the Afghanistan Cricket and the organization.”

Conclusion:

The ACB’s decision to soften its stance on Mujeeb, Farooqi, and Naveen reflects a willingness to reconcile while maintaining discipline and commitment to national duties. The board’s emphasis on adherence to regulations underscores its commitment to upholding the integrity of Afghan cricket.
