Aakash Chopra speaks on Bhuvi’s inclusion in Team India for the WTC Final

Despite 5-wicket haul in the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, Bhuvneshwar Kumar should not be picked for the World Test Championship, according to Aakash Chopra. Former India opener on his YouTube channel elaborated on his thoughts on the same.

Chopra on Bhuvi

Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up 5 wickets conceding 30 runs in a losing cause albeit. His team Sunrisers Hyderabad lost the match to Gujarat Titans by 34 runs while chasing 189 runs. The Bhuvi spell that came much later in the innings did not help much but restricted the total below 200. While speaking of the same, Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up five wickets. He was swinging the ball very well and came later to pick up wickets at the death as well. The big question which came to yours and my mind was whether he should be considered for the WTC. The match will be at the Surrey Oval.”

He further added, “First half of the English summer, you will need swing. Jasprit Bumrah is injured, Umesh Yadav is also injured, Shardul Thakur is looking 50-50 and Jaydev Unadkat’s availability is also not yet confirmed. So can Bhuvneshwar Kumar be added in such a scenario? I still feel no but that’s just my thought.”

Chopra on SRH Klassen’s batting

Bhuvneshwar Kumar who hasn’t played a Test since January 2018 is unlikely to be considered for the WTC final. However, his spell last night impressed one all. Still to Chopra, the only good part about the SRH team yesterday in the match was Heinrich Klaasen (64 off 44).
He said, “Heinrich Klaasen is batting amazingly well. Among all overseas batters who are playing in this year’s tournament, Heinrich Klaasen is playing spin best in the middle overs and towards the end in my opinion. He reads spin from the hand and plays with the spin. He is actually batting like an absolute beast.”

He further explained, “He was doing good but couldn’t understand what the other Hyderabadis were doing. You should have done something – 59/7, you were totally floored. You came so close despite playing so badly. If you had played a little properly, these runs could have been chased.”
