5 overseas players who might bag the highest bids in IPL auction 2018

The IPL auction for the year 2018 is just around the corner and all the 8 franchises would be busy doing their homework for the event. After announcing their retained players, they now have a massive task of building a new squad for the upcoming seasons. After a long time, most of the players from the cricketing globe would be up for grabs in the IPL auction.

Even though there are 7 Indian players in a playing XI in the IPL yet the major attention is grabbed by the 4 overseas players. Because there is a limit for the overseas quota of players, the franchises strive to fill in the squads with the best ones possible. This year, there are some of the biggest overseas superstars of the game set to go under the hammer and the teams would go for an all-out attack to buy them.

Here are the 5 overseas players who might bag the heftiest bids in the IPL auction 2018

#1 Chris Lynn

The Australians have been a big part of the IPL ever since its inception in 2008. There have been many who have outshone in the league and this year, a potential Aussie who can take the IPL auction by storm is Chris Lynn. He was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ setup last year and in a short duration, he showed what destruction he is capable of causing.

The right-hander featured in just 7 matches last year and scored 295 runs at a thunderous strike rate of 180.98. He is an absolute destroyer of the bowling attacks up the order. But there is a concern over his fitness as he keeps getting injured every now and then.

In the last edition, unfortunately, he suffered a shoulder injury and had to withdraw midway. In the ongoing Big Bash League, he began in his usual demeanor but got injured again. But there is ample time left for the IPL and that’s why he might end being one of the costliest players.

#2Colin Munro

Colin Munro is another player who will be under the radar of quite a few franchises for his sheer explosive batting. The left-hander is the only player to score 3 centuries in T20 Internationals. In 38 T20Is, he has scored 947 runs at an average of 32.66 and a strike rate of 161.05 with 3 hundreds and 5 fifties. When New Zealand toured India last year, he notched up a century in a T20I in Rajkot and that must have helped him grab the eyeballs of the team owners. So far, he has just played 4 IPL matches for Kolkata Knight Riders but going by his current form, he might have a long future in the league.

#3 Ben Stokes

In the last year's IPL auction, the odds were that Ben Stokes would grab a good price but the way his bidding panned out was historic. Rising Pune Supergiant bought him for a whopping INR 14.5 crores and the all-rounder repaid the faith by putting in a marvelous performance in his debut season. He played an instrumental part in taking his side to the final. Recently, he hasn't had a good time as he was suspended by ECB for his alleged involvement in a brawl in Bristol. He had to miss out on the Ashes berth due to the Police investigation. But now that he is set to return to the field, his IPL bidding might see another tussle amongst the franchises and he could well end up as one of the costliest players again.

#4 Evin Lewis

The men from the Caribbean have always lit up the IPL with their charismatic approach to the game. While the big guns like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo have been the biggest crowd pullers over the years, there is another who is quietly rising through the ranks. Evin Lewis may not be as hugely built as someone like Gayle yet when the two have batted together off late for Windies, the former has outscored his senior partner more often than not. The left-hander has the ability to tonk the ball from the word go and is a wonderful batsman of the shortest format of the game. He has scored 2 T20 International centuries and both have come against India which is not a bad tactic to get the attention of the IPL franchises. It will be his first time in the IPL auction and watch out for his bid as he can certainly grab huge bucks.

#5 Rashid Khan

This one will be no surprise for anyone. Rashid Khan, in no time, has established himself as one of the best spinners in the world in T20 cricket. His last year's masterclass for Sunrisers Hyderabad, after being picked for INR 4 crores, brought him to the world map and there has been no stopping him since. The youngster has continued his superb form in the ongoing Big Bash League as well where he is picking up wickets in each game without going for too many runs. There were speculations that SRH would retain him before the auction but they went for David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The franchise still has the option to use an RTM card for him but the other franchises will leave no stone unturned in trying to add the Afghan leggie to their camps.   For more such interesting cricketing content,  follow Cricadium on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
