2024 T20 World Cup to be played in USA confirms USA Cricket Administrator

The USA Cricket (USAC) released a statement on June 7 in response to numerous rumours that the T20 World Cup 2024 might be held somewhere, outside of the USA and the West Indies. According to the cricket board, if the Major League Cricket (MLC) is completed successfully, any concerns about the nation’s lack of adequate cricketing infrastructure would be dispelled.

A USAC representative claimed that they haven’t discussed moving the venue with the ICC (International Cricket Council). He added that they are doing all possible to get the required infrastructure ready for the June 2024 start date of the T20 World Cup.

USA Cricket Administrator said

“We haven’t had any discussions with the ICC in this regard. We are putting our best foot forward in preparing the necessary infrastructure for the T20 World Cup, which is a year away. Concerns about makeshift venues etc are natural because the US does not host cricketing events regularly but we have the Major League Cricket coming up and a successful hosting of the T20 tournament will ward off a lot of concerns.”

Notably, July 13 through July 30 will see play in the first Major League Cricket T20. Six teams will compete in the tournament, with the games set to take place in Texas’ Grand Prairie Stadium. The league will feature a number of well-known figures from the world of cricket, including Jason Roy of England, Adam Zampa of Australia, Matthew Wade, Marcus Stoinis, and Moises Henriques.

“There has been no discussion on any ICC forum on shifting the T20 World Cup 2024 from the West Indies and the USA. It (the tournament) will go ahead and an announcement on the venues will be made shortly,” an ICC Board member was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The ICC Venue inspection team has suggested a number of cities as potential T20 World Cup host cities, including Oakland, Florida, and Los Angeles. In light of the fan support for both sides, it has been reported that the greatest game of the tournament—India vs. Pakistan—will be played in the USA rather than the West Indies.
