In a sweet moment that is going viral over social media, Shreyas Iyer’s family was seen celebrating PBKS’s win with him. His mother and sister were present at the venue to witness Iyer make history.
Punjab Kings have entered the Indian Premier League 2025 final after defeating Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 on Sunday. It was skipper Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant innings that helped the franchise reach the final for the first time since 2014.
Chasing a total of 204 runs, Iyer slammed an unbeaten 87 off 41 deliveries, laced with eight sixes and five fours. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his incredible performance. His game winning knock set Punjab up for a potential maiden title win.
A video has taken over social media that shows Iyer’s family on the ground with him. The video showed Iyer’s mother and sister making their way to him after Punjab’s win. They were seen hugging him and sharing smiles. In a funny moment on the field, Iyer’s sister was also seen mimicking his walking style.
“I love such big occasions and I always say to myself and my colleagues that the bigger the occasion, the calmer you are and you’ll get the best results. Today I was focusing a lot on my breathing rather than sweating out a lot out there,” Iyer said after the match. “When I went out there I had to take some time, but the batsman at the other end he was striking pretty well. I know the more time I spend on the field, the better I play and my vision also gets better,”Iyer said after the match.
Coming at No. 3, Josh Iglis set the foundation with 38 off 21, smashing 20 off an over from Jasprit Bumrah. Nehal Wadhera also hit 48 off 29, during his 84 run partnership with Iyer.
In the first innings during MI’s batting, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav scored 44 runs each. The two of them accumulated 72 runs for the third wicket and helped Mumbai post 203 for 6.
However, PBKS’s batting assault led by Shreyas Iyer made the chase of 204 runs look easy. Punjab Kings will face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on Tuesday, June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
