Former UK Prime Minister in the Crowd

The IPL 2025 final is underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Many known personalities from the entertainment industry to big business names are present to watch the final.

One of those famous personalities is the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak. He is present in the stadium with his wife, Akshata Murty, showing his support for the Rajat Patidar-led side.

‘RCB is my Team’

Earlier in the day, Sunak explained how he came to support RCB in the IPL. “But obviously, I’m married into a Bengaluru family, so RCB is my team. We went to matches together a long time ago, and actually, Akshata’s mother and father got me this shirt when we got married, which is great,” he said, according to a report.

Sunak also expressed his admiration for the RCB legend Virat Kohli, saying, “He’s an absolute legend. He also showed off a bat signed by Kohli that was gifted to him by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar while he was still in office.

It is not just Virat he is rooting for, but also the England players in RCB. “Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, I’m really hoping they contribute big time in the final,” he said.

He also commented on the IPL’s impact on world cricket. “The IPL has revolutionised the game. Today, every professional cricketer wants to be part of it,” he said.

Sunak Praises India’s Cricket Craze

Sunak also spoke about the fondness people have for cricket in India, be it gully cricket or an official match.

“I love cricket in India the passion, the skill, the enthusiasm. Watching a game, you can see just how much it means to everyone. There’s a brilliant intensity to it, whether it’s gully cricket or a Test match. What’s also really special is that cricket is everywhere on every street, there are people playing and then the whole country comes together for the big moments. That’s really special.”
