In a historic night at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have clinched their first-ever title win. They ended their years-long wait by defeating the Punjab Kings on Tuesday.
During the last over of the match, Virat Kohli already had tears welling up in his eyes. Virat, who has been with the team since the beginning, was overwhelmed with emotions. He hugged Rajat Patidar, who became the first RCB captain to lift the trophy. The batter also ran towards AB de Villiers and embraced the former RCB player in a heartfelt moment.
“I’ve given this team my youth, prime and experience. Tried to win it every season, gave it everything I can. Never thought this day would come, was overcome with emotion after we won,” he said, his voice choking.
The crowd erupted in applause and cheers as RCB marked their maiden IPL title win. Fans started to chant the team and Virat’s name as the players celebrated their historic win.
Anushka Sharma, Kohli’s wife, was seen jumping up and down with joy, celebrating in the stands. She was later seen on the ground hugging and comforting Virat after an emotional game.
Coming to the winning ceremony, it was Rajat Patidar who lifted the IPL trophy. He was then joined by the entire team, with excitement and joy. Together, they posed for pictures and went for a victory lap around the ground.
As RCB went around the ground, fans started to chant “RCB”. Virat, who was carrying the trophy, made gestures toward the fans, signalling them to chant louder. Former RCB legends AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle also joined the celebration.
Adding to the celebration, Ahmedabad was lit up with fireworks. Fans across Bengaluru poured into the streets in celebration. Social media also got flooded with wishes and tributes to the team, with the hashtag #EeSalaCupNamde trending.
