Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed the umpires for ignoring Virat Kohli’s dangerous act during the IPL final. He called out the batter for running in the middle of the pitch, saying it was unacceptable.
With tensions already high at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Indian Premier League final has produced a controversial moment. The former opener immediately called out RCB’s Virat Kohli for his risky act during Bengaluru’s batting.
Asked to bat first, RCB hoped to put up a big target, however, they did not get a good start. They got stuck as Virat struggled to find gaps and hit boundaries. So, he looked to score some quick twos or threes.
During the 12th over, Virat ran for a quick double off a delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal. He hit the ball wide of the long-on fielder and called for two runs. The batters successfully ran the double, but Sunil Gavaskar noticed something interesting during this particular delivery.
Gavaskar, who was on the air at the time, spotted Virat running straight down the pitch. He instantly blasted the on-field umpires for not warning Virat for the same. The act could be considered dangerous as it could change the pitch conditions for the second innings.
“Kohli is a swift runner between the wickets. As soon as he hit the ball, he knew it was two,” said Gavaskar on air.
“He said two straightaway, running straight down the pitch. No umpire will ever tell him. There he is, running straight down the pitch again. Punjab Kings are batting second,” he added.
Virat was dismissed off a delivery from Azmatullah Omarzai in the 15th over. He scored 43 runs off 35 balls. RCB eventually put up 190 for 9 wickets.
