After 17 years of unwavering commitment and heartbreak, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have finally done it. On June 3, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the IPL 2025 final and clinched their maiden title victory.
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League has ended with a new champion this year. RCB defeated the Punjab Kings by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday. The Rajat Patidar-led side etched their name in the IPL history books, becoming the eighth different franchise to win a title.
Tonight’s win is not just about a trophy, it is about the patience and determination of the team. Beyond that, it is about the fans who have been loyal to the franchise, showing their support for many years.
At the centre of this victory is Virat Kohli, who has been with the team since the league commenced in 2008. Though he scored 43 runs in the final, his leadership and years of dedication have shaped the team’s journey. With tears in his eyes, it is apparent what this win means to him.
After receiving criticism for years for the near misses, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru will finally lift the trophy after an 18-year wait.
Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, Bengaluru thrived this season with nine wins in 14 matches. The team finished the league stage in second position with 19 points, which gave them two chances to make it to the final, although they didn’t need it.
Their balanced squad of young players and seasoned experts helped them in pressure situations. The team also featured some extraordinary performances from players like Josh Hazlewood and Jitesh Sharma.
The final match was filled with ups and downs of emotions. RCB posted a total of 190/9, with Virat as the highest scorer (43 off 35). In response, the Punjab Kings had a strong start, but wavered in the middle overs. The match ended in a tense finish, with RCB winning by just six runs.
RCB’s campaign to date has been marked by challenges and close calls with victory. However, the team has paved a new way with this historic win. But through the hardships, the supporters never gave up on the team.
For the fans, this win is a reward for all those years of loyalty and support. As RCB fulfilled its dream of winning the title, the fans also realised their long-awaited dream of witnessing their team finally lift the IPL trophy.
As the celebrations continue, RCB’s legacy has forever been changed. From being a four-time contender for the title, they have finally become the champion.
