Rohit Sharma, the former captain of Mumbai Indians (MI), is known for his calm and composed demeanor on the field. But off the field, he shows his lighter side. He is often engaging with fans and making memorable moments. A recent viral clip shared on social media has caught the attention of cricket fans across the globe. The clip, recorded just ahead of MI’s Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings, features Rohit in a playful exchange with a young fan.
In the video, Rohit is seen in his Mumbai Indians jersey, interacting with young fans dressed in the team’s colors. One young fan, curious about how to get the powerful opener out, asked, “Sir aapko kaise out karne ka?” (Sir, how to get you out?). Without skipping a beat, Rohit responded with a smile, “Nahi, wo nahi ho sakta” (No, that cannot happen). His cheeky yet confident response left the crowd chuckling and quickly gained popularity on social media. Fans couldn’t get enough of Rohit’s playful personality, and many saw his reply as a subtle message to the tournament’s opposing teams, reminding them of his unshakeable form.
Though Rohit has had a mixed season with the bat, his contributions have been vital in Mumbai Indians’ progression to the IPL playoffs. After a slow start, Rohit found his form in the latter half of the season. His standout performance came during the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans, where he scored 81 runs off 50 balls, including 9 boundaries and 4 sixes. His innings helped MI set a challenging total of 228/5, and they went on to win by 20 runs, securing their spot in Qualifier 2.
After the match, Rohit reflected on his season, stating, “I’ve got only four fifties this season. I would’ve liked to score more, but I’m happy with how I contributed in the Eliminator.” His dedication to his team and his growth during the playoffs shows his leadership and commitment to MI’s cause.
This season, Rohit has also found a new opening partner in Jonny Bairstow. With Ryan Rickelton unavailable due to his commitments with South Africa for the World Test Championship, Bairstow has seamlessly partnered with Rohit at the top of the order. The two provided a solid foundation in the Eliminator, putting together an 84-run stand that gave MI the much-needed momentum. Rohit was full of praise for his new partner, saying, “I’ve seen Bairstow play from the other side for many years. He’s a destructive batter, and it’s great to have him in our team. He was aggressive from the start, and it paid off.”
