Former Zimbabwe cricketer Chris Mpofu talked about Shubman Gill’s role as the new Indian Test captain. He believes that Gill and the team will perform well for India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Shubman Gill as the Indian Test captain. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was appointed as the vice-captain. The board also announced the 18-member squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England.

‘These guys are good enough’

The former Zimbabwean bowler has expressed his confidence in the Indian Test team, saying they will adjust and thrive under Gill’s captaincy. He also commented on the fact that cricket is considered a religion in India.

“You’ve got a new captain also, Shubham Gill. You know, as much as it’s going to be hard, but I still believe that these guys are good enough to adjust in those conditions and really do well for India. Cheers. Cricket has become a religion in India,” Chris Mpofu told ANI.

Mpofu Backs Virat for IPL Win

Mpofu said that Virat Kohli deserves to win the IPL. He further added that the IPL 2025 win would be historic, no matter who wins.

“I’m a big fan of Virat. So is everyone, most of the people in India. It will be so good also to see them winning something. And like you said, you’ve got two teams that haven’t won the trophy. So it will be history in the making for any of them. And I think for Virat, he’s tried three times. He hasn’t won it, getting to that final and not winning it. I think he’s one person who deserves to get an opportunity to get his hands on that trophy,” he added.
