Following their IPL 2025 title win, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru decided to celebrate their victory with fans in Bengaluru. RCB defeated Punjab Kings on Tuesday and won their first title in 18 years of the league.
RCB planned a grand ceremony at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday evening. The players arrived in Bengaluru at around 3 PM and went directly to the hotel. They were welcomed by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar at the HAL airport.
The players then arrived at the Vidhana Soudha to meet the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Everyone at the Vidhana Soudha stood in respect as the national anthem and Karnataka anthem played before the felicitation ceremony.
Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya waved at the fans as they appeared with the CM in front of Vidhana Soudha. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, was filled with laughter seeing fans cheering for them. Notably, Phil Salt and Josh Hazlewood were not part of the victory celebrations.
The RCB captain Rajat Patidar was then honoured by Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah. He was presented with a traditional garland, a Mysuru turban, and plaque for his leadership. Other star players, including Virat Kohli, Tim David, and Liam Livinstone were also honoured with garlands, turbans, and plaques.
As the celebration continued, it started to rain in the Garden city. However, the celebration turned catastrophic as reports of stampedes near the stadium came forward.
At least seven are feared to be dead in the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The number of injured has increased to 15 and 4 persons are in critical condition. The victims have been shifted to Bowring hospital and Vydehi hospital.
Amid the chaos, the RCB players reached the stadium where fans were eagerly waiting in the rain for the champions to arrive.
