All rounder Mitchell Marsh will return to lead Australia next month. Australia is set to play against the West Indies in their five-match T20I series starting July 21.
Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel on Wednesday named a 16-member squad for the upcoming WI T20I series. Mitchell Marsh will return as captain after Josh Inglis filled in for him during the series against Pakistan.
Mitchell Marsh is coming off a fantastic season in the IPL 2025 for Lucknow Super Giants. He scored 627 runs in 13 innings at an average of 48.23 and a strike rate of 163.70.
Marsh slammed his maiden IPL century against the Gujarat Titans off just 56 balls. He hit a total of 56 boundaries and 37 maximums in the 2025 season. He will hope to continue the momentum against the Windies in July.
Talking of the IPL, Josh Hazlewood, who played for the title winning team RCB, is in excellent form. He has also been named in the squad, after missing Australia’s last T20I series against Pakistan.
Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Mitchell Starc will miss the series and return home after the Tests. Mitchell Owen and Matt Kuhnemann received their debut call, while some players missed out on selection.
“We have a busy T20 schedule coming up through this series, followed by three against South Africa and New Zealand and five matches against India at home as we continue to refine and build a squad we think will be the right fit for the World Cup on the subcontinent.”
“There are a number of players outside the squad who can still force their way into the mix for those upcoming Indian Series and through the Big Bash (League). The connection, role development and combinations we will have as options are growing nicely as we build towards the World Cup. It’s an exciting time in our T20 space.”
