Rajeev Shukla will take over as the President of the BCCI after Roger Binny’s tenure ends. Roger Binny is nearing the age limit for holding the position as per the board’s constitution.
Rajeev Shukla is set to take the reins as the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) President from Roger Binny. Binny, who currently holds the position, is nearing the age limit for the post.
Roger Binny is set to turn 70 on July 19 this year, meaning he will surpass the age limit for the President’s role. As per reports from India Today, Rajeev Shukla will assume the responsibilities of President temporarily until a new leader is officially chosen.
Binny undertook the cricket boards’ president role in 2022, after Sourav Ganguly. The former fast bowler represented India in 27 Tests and 72 ODIs, claiming a total of 124 wickets. He was crucial in India’s 1983 World Cup win, where he finished as the tournament’s highest-wicket taker.
During his tenure, India won two major white-ball titles – the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. He also assisted in introducing the Women’s Premier League (WPL), a franchise based cricket tournament modeled after the IPL.
Rajeev Shukla, the current Vice President of the BCCI, will take over as interim President for 3 months from July. He has been the Vice President since 2022. Before that, he was the Secretary at the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) until 2017. He was also the Chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) until 2018.
According to sources, he could run for the post of full-time president, with the Annual General Meeting scheduled in September.
