Punjab Kings’ odd game of football during the rain delay has left the internet confused. The PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2 fixture was delayed due to heavy rain on Sunday.
The IPL 2025 qualifier 2 between the Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians was delayed due to rain on Sunday. The match was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. MI players seemed frustrated with the rain. Meanwhile, the Kings looked relaxed during the break. Their strange game of football during the delay confused many fans online.
Rain interrupted the start of the match twice on Sunday after Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl first. A drizzle caused a short delay, which was followed by heavy rain that eventually pushed the start time to 9:45 PM.
The Punjab Kings’ players were seen playing a strange game of football during the rain break. The game was caught on camera and quickly took over the internet. In the video clip, the players stood in a line and took turns kicking the ball at Priyansh Arya. Arya stood with his back to them at a distance. The unusual game left viewers confused yet amused.
It started to drizzle just when the players were about to take the field at the regular time, 7:30 PM. The ground staff quickly came ot cover the pitch. The drizzle grew heavier, and a second, longer downpour caused another delay.
Despite a nearly two-hour rain delay, the BCCI confirmed that no overs were lost when the match began at 9:45 PM.
After the rain stopped, the Mumbai Indians came to bat. Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav each scored 44 runs. Their partnership of 72 runs for the third wicket played a key role in helping MI reach a total of 203 for 6.
Josh Inglis, coming in at No. 3, gave Punjab Kings a flying start with 38 off just 21 balls, including a brutal 20-run over against Jasprit Bumrah. Nehal Wadhera kept the momentum going, scoring 48 from 29 deliveries, as he and Shreyas Iyer put together a crucial 84-run stand.
However, PBKS’s batting assault, led by Shreyas Iyer, made the chase of 204 runs look easy. Punjab Kings will face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on Tuesday, June 3, at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
