In an unusual turn of events, the England vs West Indies 3rd ODI on Tuesday was briefly stopped. It was due to a flock of pigeons invading the ground at The Oval in London.

On Tuesday, England faced the Windies in the final ODI of their three-match series. During the match, a rare moment occurred as pigeons shortly halted play at The Oval. Unfortunately, WI’s Gudakesh Motie hit one of the pigeons, leaving it unable to fly for some time.

Pigeon Drama at The Oval

The incident occurred during the 36th over of the match. Motie hit a cover drive off a delivery from Aadil Rashid. The shot hit one of the pigeons sitting on the ground. The rest of the pigeons flew away as soon as the ball went around them, except the one that was hit. That shot rendered the bird unable to fly for some time.

After the incident, England pacer Matthew Potts attempted to help the bird take flight. After a few failed attempts, the pigeon flew off, resuming the play.

England Clean Sweeps the West Indies

Batting first, the West Indies put up a total of 251 for 9 in their allotted 40 overs. Sherfane Rutherford scored 70 runs off 71 deliveries, while Motie added 63 runs to their total. England stopped the Windies from crossing the 300 mark with Rashid Khan claiming three wickets.

Under the DLS method, the target was revised to 246, which England chased easily in just 29.4 overs. Jamie Smith scored 64 off 28 balls, leading the chase. Ben Duckett and Joe Root added 58 and 44 respectively.

The three Lions whitewashed the Windies in the one-day international series with 3-0.
