Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma drew attention to himself after MI’s dominant win over DC. He took a lap around the stadium with franchise co-owner Nita Ambani.
On Wednesday, the Mumbai Indians sealed their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs. The five-time winners registered their eighth win of the season, defeating Delhi Capitals by 59 runs. However, it was Rohit Sharma who stole the spotlight after their crucial win.
The veteran cricketer drew major attention towards himself as he was taking a lap around the Mumbai Indians’ home ground. He made his way around the stadium with the franchise co-owner Nita Ambani. The two seemed to be in deep conversation while going around the ground.
After the lap, Rohit was seen standing beside Kuldeep Sharma and Kevin Pietersen during the post-match presentation. As a gesture of gratitude for the fans in Wankhede, he launched balls into the crowd with a tennis racket. This was his way of showing that he’s thankful for the support. He had already performed a similar act moments earlier from another corner of the ground.
Suryakumar Yadav slammed an unbeaten 73 off 43 balls, featuring seven fours and four sixes. Suryakumar, thanks to his partnership with Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir, took MI’s innings to 180/5.
Jasprit Bumrah (3/12) and Mitchell Santner (3/11) grabbed three wickets each. Mumbai Indians bowled Delhi Capitals out for 121 and won by a big margin of 59 runs in their final game of the season at their home ground.
Mumbai Indians have now reached the IPL playoffs for the 11th time with the aim to win their sixth title. They had won in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
As of now, MI have 16 points from 13 matches, and they are fourth in the IPL 2025 points table.
