Speaking to RR head coach Rahul Dravid, Vaibhav Suryavanshi revealed how he has been adjusting to the popularity. Suryavanshi got candid and also expressed his contentment with his preparations paying off.
Rajasthan Royals’ season ended early, having finished second from the bottom. Despite the franchise’s dreadful performance this season, the 14-year-old Suryavanshi ends his debut season with pride. In 7 matches, he accumulated 252 runs, scoring a remarkable century and other stunning knocks during the season.
In a candid chat with Rahul Dravid, Suryavanshi reflected on his preparations and how he worked on what was missing from his performance. He also revealed the attention he received after his incredible century in just 36 balls.
“I have been preparing for 3-4 years. And I saw the results too. Whatever was missing, I was able to work on it. All the things that once looked tough became easy. I have realised that it’s important to stay focused. There’s no such thing as natural game. You only have to play according to what the team needs. And not try to do too many extra things at this level. I have to stay in my strong zone and make the team win,” he said.
“I received over 500 missed calls, but I had kept my phone switched off. A lot of people were approaching me after I scored the century. But I don’t like that [having too many people]. I try to stay away. I had kept my phone off for 4 days; I told you that. I like to be around my people at home and a few friends. That’s it.”
Now that the IPL is over for Suryavanshi, he is getting ready for his next assignment. He has already represented India in Under-19 Tests and is set to travel to England next month.
There, the India Under-19 team will face England in five 50-over matches and three four-day matches. This tour will expose him to unfamiliar conditions, helping him grow as a cricketer.
