Bangladesh began their two-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates with a strong performance. They defeated UAE by 27 runs in the first game at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. With this victory, Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead in the series.
The visitors showed discipline in both batting and bowling. They put up a competitive score and stayed sharp in the field. Despite a fight from the UAE batters, Bangladesh managed to hold on and secure a comfortable win.
Young left-handed batter Parvez Hossain Emon played a brilliant knock. He scored a century in just 53 balls, hitting nine sixes and five fours. His clean hitting helped Bangladesh reach a total of 191 runs.
Emon became only the second Bangladeshi batter to score a T20I hundred. His nine sixes set a new national record for the most sixes in a T20I innings by a Bangladeshi player. He went past the previous record of seven sixes by Rishad Hossain.
Emon also joined an elite group of players who have smashed nine sixes in a T20 match at Sharjah, including Sanju Samson, Glenn Maxwell, and Hazratullah Zazai. Only Chris Gayle, with ten sixes in 2018, sits ahead on that list.
In reply, UAE’s top-order batters tried to keep the chase alive. Asif Khan, Rahul Chopra, and captain Muhammad Waseem played some quick shots. However, the rising required run rate and regular wickets put pressure on the hosts.
Bangladesh bowlers showed great control in the final overs. They picked up crucial wickets and never allowed UAE to build a strong partnership. The hosts were eventually bowled out 27 runs short of the target.
This win gave Bangladesh a 1-0 advantage in the series. The team will now look to continue this form in the second and final match. Emon’s heroic century has boosted the team’s morale and made him a player to watch in the future.
