“Earlier they played with three gears…”: Tom Moody on Sai Sudharshan and Gill

Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan have been unstoppable in IPL 2025. As Gujarat Titans’ opening pair, they have scored 839 runs together this season. Their average stands at a staggering 76.27. They have put together seven partnerships of over 50 runs. Three of those have crossed the 100-run mark. This consistency at the top has become Gujarat Titans’ biggest strength.

Both players are in top form. Their understanding of each other’s game has helped the team start strong in almost every match. They have adjusted their game plans based on the situation. This has made them one of the most dangerous pairs in this season’s IPL.

Big Show at Arun Jaitley Stadium

In a recent match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the duo delivered once again. Gujarat Titans were chasing a big target of 200. Sai Sudharsan played a brilliant innings. He remained unbeaten on 108 from 61 balls. His knock included 12 fours and four sixes.

Captain Shubman Gill supported him well. He scored 93 not out off just 53 deliveries. Gill hit three fours and seven sixes in his innings. Together, they chased the total in just 19 overs. This win also confirmed Gujarat Titans’ place in the IPL 2025 playoffs.

The way they paced their innings was remarkable. They started steadily, rotated the strike, and then shifted gears when required. Their running between the wickets was sharp. Their shot selection was clean and calculated.

Learning to Shift Gears

Former SRH coach Tom Moody praised the pair. He said both players have improved how they move through an innings. “Earlier they played with three gears. Now they have five. They can start slow, build an innings, and then accelerate when needed,” said Moody.

He added that they complement each other well. “If one player is going hard, the other balances the innings by rotating strike. They don’t panic. They back each other and that shows in their results.”

Their success has not only given Gujarat Titans strong starts, but also confidence in big chases. With the playoffs approaching, the Titans will rely heavily on Gill and Sudharsan to maintain this form.

If they continue like this, they could lead their team all the way to another IPL title.
