Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) opening batter, Travis Head, will miss out on their battle with Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025. The team’s head coach, Daniel Vettori, confirmed that Travis Head contracted COVID-19, leading to his late arrival in India.
Daniel Vettori, on Sunday evening, clarified that the explosive opener would not play Monday’s match and said he contracted COVID-19. However, it is unknown at the moment when he tested positive for the virus.
“He had Covid-19 and unfortunately he couldn’t travel,” Vettori said in the pre-match press conference.
“We’re hopeful of having him back for the next game once he’s fully recovered and cleared to join the squad,” he added.
This IPL season, Travis was unable to impress with his bat as his performance has been below par. In comparison, his performance last year was phenomenal, where he was instrumental in SRH reaching the final.
Travis scored only 281 runs in 11 matches at an average of 28.10 and a strike rate of 156.11. He has two 50+ scores this season; however, his performance compared to last year is average.
In IPL 2024, he amassed 567 runs from 15 matches at an average of 40.50 and a stunning strike rate of 191.55.
“Travis is coming in tomorrow morning, he was delayed. He actually had COVID, so he couldn’t travel, so he’ll get in tomorrow morning and we’ll assess how he is after that,” Vettori told reporters in the press conference on Monday.
Vettori, in the press conference, informed that Travis will arrive in India on Monday morning. However, as of now, there is no further information regarding the matter. As to when he will rejoin SRH in the league also remains unknown.
Travis’ absence could be a huge boost for LSG. Despite having an average season, he still has the ability to take the game away from Lucknow.
