Bowling maestro Jasprit Bumrah has once again showed his excellence when it mattered most. He showed why he is one of the finest pacers in the game, by tipping the scale in MI’s favour in the time of need.
With the match against Gujarat Titans slipping from Mumbai’s hands, they were in need of a breakthrough. As usual Bumrah delivered under pressure with his perfect yorker dismissing Washington Sundar. With his brilliant control over line and length, he stopped Gujarat from progressing in the match.
Gujarat Titans began their chase aiming to take on their bowlers and disrupt MI’s plans of making it to the final. Despite Shubman Gill’s early wicket, Sai Sudharsan (80) and Washington Sundar (48) kept up with the required run rate. They added 84 runs to GT’s chase, making Mumbai’s bowlers nervous.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya, left with no other choice, turned to Bumrah to bring them back in the game. In the 14th over, the star pacer conceded just four runs and claimed the crucial wicket of Washington Sundar.
On the fourth ball of the 14th over, Bumrah delivered a perfect yorker on the leg stump. Sundar opened his stance to hit the ball, however, the ball went through his legs. The batter fell on the ground and the ball hit the stumps.
In a high scoring match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, Bumrah conceded only 27 runs in his four overs. The match saw more than 430 runs, with 228 from MI and 208 from GT. However, Bumrah gave away only 27 runs at an economy rate of 6.75.
He was also called upon to bowl the 18th over of the match when GT needed 45 runs off 18 balls. He gave only nine runs during the crucial death overs.
Bumrah missed the first four matches of the season. In the 11 matches he has played so far, he has picked up 18 wickets at an economy rate of 6.36.
